Image Content Analysis Questionnaire
This survey has been designed to measure the effect of still images on human emotions. In the next pages of this website, you are asked to rate 10 images. Please rate each image on three dimensions: excited vs. calm, controlled vs. in-control, and happy vs. unhappy. Each dimension corresponds to each row of buttons as shown bellow. In each row, you can see that each figure varies along each scale. You also need to select one option form each scale (row) and then click on "Next Page" to go to the next image.
The first row is excited vs. calm dimension. At one extreme you felt stimulated, exited, frenzied, jittery, wide-awake, and aroused. If you feel completely aroused while viewing the picture, click on the button next to figure on your right. On the other hand, at the other end of the scale you feel completely relaxed, calm, sluggish, dull, sleepy and unaroused. You can indicate you felt completely calm by clicking an the button next the figure at the left of the row. You can also describe intermediate feelings by clicking on the button next to any of the other pictures. If you felt completely neutral, click on the button next to the figure in the middle.
The second row is controlled vs. in-control. At one end of scale you have feelings characterized as completely controlled, influenced, cared-for, awed, submissive, guided. Please indicate feeling controlled by clicking on the button next to the figure on the right. At the other extreme of this scale, you felt completely controlling, influential, in control, important, and dominant. You can indicate you felt dominant by clicking on the button to the right of the figure. Note that when the figure is larger, you feel important and influential. The figure is small when you feel controlled and guided. When you feel neither in control nor controlled you should click on the button next to the middle picture.
The last scale, respective to the last row of buttons below, of the feeling that you will rate is happy vs. unhappy scale, which ranges from a smile to a frown. At one extreme of this scale you feel happy, pleased, satisfied, and hopeful. If you feel completely happy while viewing the picture you can indicate this by clicking on the button next to the figure. The other end of the scale is when you feel completely unhappy, annoyed, unsatisfied, melancholic, and despaired. You can indicate feeling completely unhappy by clicking on the button next to the related figure.
